Who we are / contact
Memphonics is a personal language-learning app. You can reach us at support@memphonics.com.
Service description
Memphonics helps you learn a target language by turning sentences you want to say into study cards. It generates natural target-language card drafts, lets you save them, and reviews them with spaced repetition and audio playback. It focuses on natural expressions, not literal translation, and is not a grammar textbook, dictionary, or chat tutor.
Accounts and verification
You need an account to use Memphonics. You provide an email address and verify it to sign in. Keep your login secure and don’t share it. You’re responsible for activity under your account. You must be old enough to consent to use an online service in your country (see Children, below).
Free trial and generation quotas
Memphonics is currently offered as a limited trial. To keep the service stable, AI generation is subject to daily quota limits. When you reach a quota you may need to wait before generating more cards. Quotas and trial terms may change as the product develops.
Paid subscriptions and billing
Memphonics may offer paid subscriptions. The terms in this section apply when you choose to buy one. The pricing and the specific terms shown to you at checkout govern your purchase if there is any conflict. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period unless you cancel, and you can cancel at any time.
- Monthly plans: your first monthly payment is refundable within 7 days of that first charge.
- Annual plans: your first annual payment is refundable within 14 days of that first charge.
- Renewal payments are generally non-refundable, except where required by law or in the case of a clear billing error, duplicate charge, or our failure to provide the service.
- As a courtesy, if an annual plan renews and you have not used the service after that renewal, you may request a refund of the renewal within 72 hours of the renewal charge.
- You can cancel at any time through your Account File or the billing portal. Cancellation stops future renewals; your access continues until the end of the period you already paid for.
- We do not provide prorated refunds for partial periods except where required by law or where Memphonics explicitly grants one.
- Approved refunds are issued to your original payment method.
- Your saved cards and review history may remain accessible even after a subscription ends, although creating new AI-generated cards requires an active plan.
Digital access and withdrawal rights. A paid subscription provides immediate digital access. Where you have a statutory right of withdrawal, you may be asked to consent to immediate access and to acknowledge that your withdrawal right may be limited once access begins, except as the refund windows above or applicable law provide.
Payment disputes and chargebacks. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us first at support@memphonics.com so we can help resolve it. Filing a chargeback or payment dispute without contacting us may result in suspension of your account while the dispute is reviewed.
User content and learning data
You keep ownership of the sentences and notes you enter and the cards you save. You grant us permission to store and process that content so we can operate the service for you — for example, generating drafts, synthesizing audio, and scheduling reviews. Don’t submit content you don’t have the right to use.
AI generation and TTS processing
To produce card drafts and audio, the text you submit is sent to third-party processors: Google Vertex / Gemini for generation and Microsoft Azure Speech for text-to-speech. AI output can be imperfect or wrong — review it before relying on it. See our Privacy Policy for how this data is handled.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Break the law or infringe others’ rights.
- Abuse, overload, scrape, or try to bypass quotas, security, or rate limits.
- Submit malicious, harmful, or deliberately abusive content.
- Resell or redistribute the service or its generated output as your own product.
Ownership and license
The Memphonics app, brand, and software are owned by us. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the service for your own language learning during the trial. We don’t claim ownership of your saved cards.
Third-party material remains subject to its applicable license. Restrictions in these terms do not override rights granted by an applicable third-party license.
Japanese Primer source credits
Japanese vocabulary selection and ordering were informed by wordfreq 3.1.1 by Robyn Speer. wordfreq copyright 2022 Robyn Speer. Its code uses the Apache license; its packaged frequency data uses CC BY-SA 4.0. Selection includes curriculum culls and identity corrections. Raw frequency tables are not included in the Primer packs.
The Japanese Primer vocabulary list (selected target forms and readings, and their curriculum order) is available under CC BY-SA 4.0, including our contributions to that selection and arrangement. You may copy, share, and adapt that list, including commercially, with appropriate credit, a license link, an indication of changes, and the same license for covered adaptations. Our service terms do not restrict those licensed rights. See the full license and wordfreq's upstream source notices. No endorsement or warranty is implied.
Japanese input normalization used UniDic via unidic-lite 1.0.8. UniDic 2.1.2 is copyright the UniDic Consortium and distributed under its BSD license. The tokenizer and dictionary distributions are not bundled in the Primer packs.
This list license does not declare the separately authored sentences, translations, contextual explanations, sentence maps, recordings, application software, or brand to be CC BY-SA material. It does not grant redistribution rights to the complete authored deck. Memphonics provides in-app study, not a complete-deck export feature. Applicable third-party rights and statutory exceptions remain unaffected.
Service availability and changes
Memphonics is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. It is early-stage software: features, quotas, and availability may change, and we may add, modify, or discontinue parts of the service. We don’t guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
No professional advice / learning outcomes
Memphonics is a study aid. Generated translations and audio are for learning and may contain mistakes. We don’t guarantee accuracy or any particular learning result, and Memphonics is not a substitute for professional translation or instruction.
Termination
You can stop using Memphonics at any time. We may suspend or end access if you misuse the service or break these terms, or if we discontinue the service. On termination your license to use the service ends.
Children
Memphonics is not directed to children under 13. You may not use Memphonics if you are under 13. If you are under the age required to consent to online services in your country, you may use Memphonics only with appropriate parent or guardian consent.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms. Questions? Email support@memphonics.com.
